For church treasurers and counting committees

When two careful counters get two different totals, the counting method is the problem. Kountr counts the whole offering in one pass.

Set the unsorted bills from the collection plates in the hopper and press START. Kountr reads the value of each bill, shows one dollar total, and puts the same number on a second screen facing the other counter.

Kountr money counter counting a mixed stack of bills

After the last service

The offering gets counted twice because hand counting gives every bill three chances to slip

After the last service, two volunteers carry the plates into the church office. One sorts the bills into piles while the other waits to check the count.

Each bill gets handled three times. It is sorted into a pile, counted with that pile, and then added in when the pile totals go on the calculator.

A slip at any of those steps changes the total, and nobody can see which step it was. So when the second counter gets a different number, the whole stack goes back to the start.

Treasurers who have run the count for years accept that recount as part of Sunday. The afternoon stretches, and the deposit waits until two numbers finally agree.

Neither counter did anything wrong. Three separate steps gave the same pile three chances to come out different.

What changes on Sunday

Kountr removes the sorting and the adding, which are the two steps where hand counts drift apart

Counting by hand
Counting with Kountr
Sorting
Ones, fives, tens and twenties go into separate piles before counting starts.
The unsorted stack goes straight into the hopper.
Adding
Each pile is counted, then the pile totals are added on a calculator.
Kountr reads each bill's value as it feeds and shows one dollar total.
Checking
The second counter recounts the whole stack to confirm the first.
The second counter reads the same total on the display facing them.
Deposit slip
The breakdown by bill is worked out and written by hand.
DETAIL shows how many of each bill. With the printer, PRINT puts the count on paper.
Suspect bills
Checked by eye, when someone remembers to check.
Every bill passes UV, magnetic ink and infrared checks, and a suspect bill is flagged.
The Kountr second display showing the piece count and total

The second display

Both signatures on the count sheet go under a total both counters watched appear

Kountr comes with a second display that faces the other side of the table. It shows the same piece count and dollar total as the main screen while the bills run through.

The count stays a two-person count, the way your finance committee wants it. The second person verifies by reading the total instead of counting the money a second time.

When the totals match on the first pass, the deposit bag closes and the volunteers go to lunch.

What comes in the Kountr box: the counter and the second display

Built for volunteers

Two buttons run the Sunday count

Plug it in and set the stack in the top hopper. START runs the count. DETAIL shows how many ones, fives, tens, twenties, fifties and hundreds made up the total.

The 3.5-inch color screen shows the result at a glance. It runs on its own, so nothing needs to be installed on the church computer.

The Print-Ready Kit

A paper tape for the deposit bag, printed from the same pass that counted it

The kit pairs the counter with a receipt printer. After the count, press PRINT and the result comes out on a paper tape you can staple to the deposit slip or file with the count sheet.

  • Kountr mixed-bill counter with the second display for the other counter
  • Receipt printer and thermal paper for the count tape
  • Fire-resistant cash pouch to hold the counted offering until it goes to the bank
  • Care Kit with a dust cover and sensor-cleaning sponges to keep the readings accurate

Questions treasurers ask

Before the committee decides

Do the bills need to be sorted first?

No. In MDC (mixed denomination) mode you set the unsorted stack in the hopper. Square the edges and remove paper clips, rubber bands and folded corners before it goes in.

Does it count coins or checks?

No. Kountr counts paper bills. Count the coins and checks separately and add them to the deposit slip.

Can the second counter see the total?

Yes. The second display faces the other side of the table and shows the same piece count and total as the main screen.

What happens when a bill is flagged?

Kountr checks every bill with UV, magnetic ink and infrared sensors and flags a suspect one so you can pull it. Check that bill by hand, then run the rest of the stack. A flag means the bill needs a closer look. Worn or older bills can trip the sensors too.

Can it print the count?

Yes, with a printer. Kountr has a PRINT button, and the Print-Ready Kit includes the receipt printer and paper. The counter on its own does not include a printer.

Can we get a receipt for the church records?

Your order confirmation email is an itemized receipt. If your treasurer needs anything else for the records, email kountrsupport@gmail.com.

Who do we contact with a question?

Email kountrsupport@gmail.com. Kountr is a small business, and a person who knows the machine replies within 1 business day.
